Psychiatrist to the Gay Community: Sorry, I guess I was wrong about that whole 'cure' idea

Leading shrink apologies for the implications of his 2001 study that supported the notion of a gay 'cure.'

Dr. SpitzerIn 2001, Dr. Robert L. Spitzer, a leading psychiatrist, presented a study supporting the idea of "reparative therapy" for those who identified as gay. Dr. Spitzer, who turns 80 next week, recently did what he should have done (and known) decades ago.

He said, in effect, "I'm sorry" (Actually, he said "“I believe I owe the gay community an apology.").

"Repartive therapy?" "Sexual reorientation?" Jesus... The idea that there's even a need for a homosexuality "cure" is preposterous. The notion that someone can design and administer such a cure is beyond looney.

This ridiculous train of thought reminds us of the hilarious movie, But I'm a Cheerleader. If you haven't seen the satirical comedy/drama, do so this weekend.
