Sasquatch Festival: Day one in photos

Day one of the Sasquatch Music Festival. Pics and thoughts.

Despite a little SNAFU with my camping situation, the first day of Sasquatch is turning out to be a success (Pretty Lights have yet to take the main stage). Sunshine dominated most of the day and many of the bands were bringing their "A" game today.
Case in point, Yellow Ostrich. I saw Yellow Ostrich last year at Portland's Mississippi Studios. A very small and dark venue. The show was strong and subdued in a way that made me wonder if something bigger was lurking under the surface. Well... today, they proved that there was. Performing on Sasquatch's second biggest stage, Yellow Ostrich flat out rocked. Thanks to their vocal/guitar looping technique, their sound is already deeper than it should be, but this three piece from Brooklyn stood out on the Bigfoot stage as today's best performance. (It should also be noted that the Bigfoot stage sound engineer has got the levels dialed in perfectly for the first time since I've been coming).
Runner-up in the performance category goes to Santigold. Her unique upbeat sound coupled with mid-century inspired tropical outfits on not only her, but her dancers as well, produced the first major dance party of the festival. (photos of that will be coming later). Minneapolis group Polica was also pretty good and though i wasn't there for it... I just saw fireworks going off at the mainstage to end the Girl Talk show. Basically, if you aren't here at Sasquatch... you should be, because it's only going to get better.
So, while you wait for tickets to go on sale for 2013... go ahead and check out the slideshow below and then listen to music from the bands that performed today.
