Latest Victim of the Digital Age: Seattle's Easy Street Records

Last year we profiled Portland's Music Millennium. In that piece we touched on the sad day when store owner Terry Currier had to close down his second location in Portland's Northwest Pearl District. A result of the shift to digital forms of music.

Well, come January 18, that digital age will claim a second victim in our neck of the woods. Seattle's Easy Street Records announced yesterday that they too will be closing a popular second location in the Emerald City's Queen Anne District.

As someone who stays at the Mediterranean Inn when in Seattle— two blocks from that Easy Street location, I can say I'm uspet about the closing. An awesome place to buy vinyl and for locals to spend National Record Store Day each year— after 12 years of being open, this location will be missed.

I hope this is a reminder to us all, that we should not take places like this for granted— including our own Ranch Records and Recycle Music. So show them some love the next time you're near. After all, tactile music monumentally changes the experience of listening to it.
