Posted By on Fri, Dec 12, 2014 at 2:00 PM

Christmas is fast approaching, so between frantic shopping, holiday office parities (ours is TONIGHT!) and other obligatory events, try to enjoy yourself. Here's what we will be up to this weekend...

Deschutes Brewery: The Dissident Release Celebration
It's finally time for the release of The Dissident. Pucker up craft beer fans...this Flanders-style sour brown ale has fresh tart pie cherries from Oregon, Brettanomyces, and hints of barrel aromas and flavors from the aging process. This beer is very limited so grab a bottle or two if you see it around. We will be celebrating the release at the Deschutes Brewery pubs in Bend and Portland on December 12th all day with samples, snifters, food specials, and bottles and swag for sale. 11am-11pm. Deschutes Brewery Public House 1044 NW Bond St.
friday 12

Local favorite folk band Broken Down Guitars.
9 pm. Volcanic Theatre Pub 70 SW Century Dr. $5.

Zombies vs. Unicorns
DERBY—Last year, the Unicorns pranced and jabbed their way to victory over the lifeless Zombies in a highly attended Renegade Roller Derby bout. Now, the two teams go head to horn to see if the Zombies can come back from the dead to take those fancy horses down a notch. Doors at 6, bout at 7. Midtown Ballroom, 51 NW Greenwood Ave. $10 in advance, kids under 10 free.

Those who would rather join the event nearer the trailhead are encouraged to meet outside the Bend Senior Center at 7 pm.
6pm-8pm. Bend Electric Bikes 223 NW Hill St. Free.

Second Sunday: Fractured Fairy Tales and Myths
POETRY—Award-winning Bend poets Judith Montgomery and Suzanne Burns explore the darker side of common tales and mythical notions, from “Hansel and Gretel” to Death itself. Montgomery received the 2000 Oregon Book Award and Burns won the 2013 Diagram Innovative Fiction Prize. Though the two don’t write together, their poetry touches on similar themes. An open mic will follow the reading. 2 pm. Downtown Bend Library, Free.
