Opening for Person People: It's the Staxx Brothers

The Staxx Brothers open for Person People on Halloween!

Person People will surely get you in the Halloween spirit tonight with their headlining show at the Domino Room tonight, but the second half of the bill also deserves your attention. I'm talking about the Staxx Brothers, an eight-member funk, hip-hop and soul collective from Seattle that, contrary to its name, also includes some Staxx Sisters.

The band classifies itself as "hard-ass soul" and just barely fits on most stages (with the exception of the video below from what seems to be their Halloween show from last year) and rolls with a set of four vocalists, which go nicely with the collection of instrumentation they throw down. Included in that troupe of vocalists is Decurrian, who serves as the Staxx Brothers' hype man and MC, daring people not to dance. One writer called them "the closest thing to vintage Funkadelic" he'd ever seen. That's bold, for sure, but he's on the right track.

Staxx Brothers have dropped on Bend already this year and this should be a good repeat performance and seems a perfect fit for a Halloween (or pre-Halloween) party. I would bet a handful of candy corn (the rotary phone of candy ingenuity) that the Staxx Brothers come dressed in style for the show. Maybe someone will be Balloon Boy...who knows?

Mappy Malloween everyone.
