Blogger Jeff Mapes at The Oregonian discloses that the Jeff Merkley campaign made a boo-boo in its latest attack video against Gordon Smith: The posh home on Country Club Drive in Bethesda, MD that the video identifies as Smith's actually isn't.

The Merkley campaign, "ever alert to find ways to hit at Republican Sen. Gordon Smith's personal wealth, has a new web ad that ends with a satellite image of a palatial house in Maryland with a putting green in the back that is identified as Smith's residence," writes Mapes.

"The only problem: that's not the home of the Oregon senator. As it happens, Smith lives down the street in another house (which is also pretty nice, being valued at more than $4 million). There's no putting green, but he does live near the Congressional Country Club, perhaps the most storied golf club in the Washington, D.C. area."

A Smith campaign spokesperson denounced the video "as another personal, false attack" from the Merkley campaign. Merkley spokesman Matt Canter told Mapes it was an honest mistake, and that if the Smith campaign is willing to provide a photo of the actual Smith home "we will change it."
