The Eye has long suspected that some members of the Republican "base" weren't too tightly wrapped, but the election results seem to have completely unwrapped them.
Case in point: Ted Piccolo ("I Am Coyote") put up on his NW Republican blog a video of a teacher talking to her students about the coming election and saying John McCain wanted the Iraq war to go on for 100 years.
Okay, it was perfectly legitimate to post that; the teacher had no business injecting partisan politics into school. (Although Piccolo's headline - "Teacher thugs infect the classroom" - was pretty hysterical.)
But then an anonymous visitor commented: "Funny thing, I saw an almost identical story on another blog about a teacher's aide browbeating a student for supporting Obama. People on both sides need to just get over it already."
And Piccolo/Coyote responded: "Why do I think you are fibbing? Why do I think that there is no 'other' blog that has a teacher browbeating a student voting for Obama? Why is that just too hard to believe?"
Which prompted somebody signing him/herself "Wingnut Slayer" to post a story from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette confirming that a teacher's aide had, in fact, been suspended after making offensive and racist remarks in class about Obama - saying that he would be assassinated, that the US flag would be changed to the KFC flag and that the National Anthem would be changed to the "Movin' On Up" theme song.
Why was NW Republican so unwilling to believe a report of classroom misbehavior by a Republican? Maybe for the same reason it was so eager to believe - and post - the bogus pre-election story about McCain campaign worker Ashley Todd having a "B" carved in her cheek by a big, black Obama supporter.
