A New Moon?

New owners and look for Silver Moon Brewing

Silver Moon Brewing, established in 2000, is finally getting a makeover. The exact look, though, is hard to pinpoint, as new co-owner James Watts has been decidedly coy.

Here's what we know: On June 25 Cycle Pub owner James Watts, along with Snap Fitness owner Matt Barrett, bought the brewery from its founder, Tyler Reichert. Reichert will stay on to help with sales and the transition period.

We also know Silver Moon will continue to crank out its award-winning beers, like Bridge Creek Pilsner and Snake Bite Porter, while experimenting with new barrel-aged beers. The strategy is to double production in the first 12 months. Watts plans to add a number of guest taps inside the brewery, upping the total tap tally to 16, while also making room for sangria and, possibly, kombucha. The live music will stay and Jah Promotions will continue to do the booking.

But the food is getting an overhaul.

"We're trying to win back the confidence of the lunch crowd," Watts said, before explaining the hire of a new kitchen consultant.

Watts has made it clear that the pool table, disco ball, etc. are all going away (fill out an entry form at the brewery to enter a raffle for the old décor), and that the new look will be "modern and unique." While no details were revealed, Watts did say the brewery's walls would be a tribute to Bend's outdoor scene.

"Think Hard Rock Café, but take away the guitars and add action sports memorabilia," Watts explained, before suggesting items like Ashton Eaton's jersey and race numbers (with times!) from local amateur 10K runners. Watts has already begun curating memorabilia and created a website (still devoid of information) and Facebook page dedicated to his vision, called Bend Action Sports Exhibit, or BASE.
