Another Reason You Should Be Drinking

noticed a sign at the Summit advertising bubbles for books - if you buy a mimosa, a donation will be made to the Smart Literacy Program, serving Oregon schools.

Since it is negative 50 degrees today (well, almost), I needed a soup and sandwich fix. The Downtowner at The Summit Saloon is my go-to for soup, and today didn't disappoint - the chicken and dumplings soup tasted like hugs and rainbows. Remember that Campbell's Soup commercial where the snowman comes inside, eats soup and melts into a child? That was kind of what it felt like.

While I was unthawing, I noticed a sign at the Summit advertising "bubbles for books" - if you buy a mimosa, a donation will be made to the Smart Literacy Program, serving Oregon schools.

I googled it and couldn't find information on the Bubbles for Books program, but I've noticed the advertisement at a couple other locations around town, including Common Table. So next time you have a hankering for bubbly, look for the Bubbles for Books sign and promote reading and drinking at the same time!

Speaking of Common Table, I recently went in and saw a new sign for the restaurant hanging on the wall. Check it out:

The letters were actually commissioned by local artists and the winning letters hang in the main sign. Honorable mention letters are displayed on the back wall. Each letter is unique and beautiful, just like all the people in Bend. Aww.
