Bend Film

By the Numbers

Next week, BendFilm returns to big screens around town. The festival, which has become a rite of Fall in Bend, is the region's signature celebration of independent film and a great chance to get out and appreciate filmmaking as both art and entertainment. See the films that Hollywood is too timid or too stupid to make. Talk to the filmmakers and actors who begged, borrowed and, well we don't want to know what, to get these movies made. It's BendFilm in all its celluloid glory—and it's back, thank goodness, it's back.

Check back next week to read our in-house BF itinerary, or pull out the BendFilm guide in this week's issue and start charting your own course for the weekend. In the meantime, here's a snapshot of BendFilm, By the Numbers:

15 percent – the increase in audience attendance from 2010 to 2011

475 – the total number of film submissions to the festival

80-plus – the number of features, documentaries and short films featured in this year's festival.

5 – The number of venues for BendFilm 2012, including the Tower Theatre, Regal Old Mill, and downtown's Tin Pan Theater.

$500 – How much winners will take home in all the major filmmaking and acting categories.
