Dog Sledding

Given how much Bend loves both snow and dogs, it should come as no surprise that one does not have to travel to the great white north to experience the thrill of sled dog rides in person. Turns out you need only travel as far as Sunrise Lodge at the base of Mt. Bachelor to take your own Iditarod-style tour.

Oregon Trail of Dreams is owned and operated by the Scdoris family, veterans of the actual Iditarod, and their beautiful team of joyous sled dogs. They offer a one-hour tour which can accommodate a family of four, or a marathon tour suitable for two adults. The one hour tour includes a brief orientation and allows interested kids (or kids at heart) to help feed, water, and generally love on the dogs after the tour. The marathon tour is a true 26-mile, half-day tour and takes passengers on a picturesque voyage through the woods to Elk Lake for lunch and back.

One hour tours range in price from $45 for kids (under 80 pounds) to $99 for adults (over 80 pounds) during holiday season. The marathon trip is available weekdays only and costs $550.
