Sledding!

Nothing says winter break like careening down a hillside, full-tilt, on a found object that may or may not have been engineered for such things. Skiing and snowboarding are tops here, but sometimes they just can't scratch the snow-day itch like a day of sledding can.

Wanoga Sno-Park

Wanoga is home to a day-use snowmobile park as well as a sledding hill, so it can get pretty crowded here, pretty early in the day. But, it is just 12 miles out SW Century Drive and will only cost you the four bucks you spend on a sno-park permit. It also has creature comforts like a warming shelter with picnic tables, and a wood-burning fire as well as vault toilets.

Mt. Bachelor Snowblast Tubing Park

Batchy's fancy sledding hill boasts a groomed, 800-foot, straight-shot-of-joy down the mountain. Better still, there's a lift to tow you back up so you needn't work hard to play hard. Passes are sold in person, same-day only; rumor has it they sell out quickly, so get there early.

SHARC Tubing Hill

Sunriver's saved sledding from global climate change with the advent of its artificially-surfaced hill. Sunny and sixty degrees or snowy and sub-zero, the SHARC hill does not disappoint. And, if you tire of the terrestrial, the indoor aquatic center is open year round as well.
