It's A Dog's Life

Dear Readers,

Last weekend we adopted "Yellow Dog" who is one of nine dogs recently rescued from Harney County and brought to Bend.

Initially we had concerns about his mental and physical condition as a result of him being kept in such an abusive environment so I had to write and get the word out to those of you considering adoption of one of the remaining pups.

Yellow Dog, who is a three-year-old Lab mix, is now one of the happiest and most grateful dogs we've ever known. Although he is just learning what it is to enjoy being a dog, he has brought much happiness into our lives already.

He wasn't house trained but has made no mistakes.

He wasn't leash trained but he walks contentedly by our sides.

He has had to fight for his food under awful conditions but he shows no food aggression, eats slowly and is very calm and gentle with other dogs and our 11-year-old cat, whew!

He wants very much to please and responds immediately to a firm no.

He's a little timid and doesn't yet understand the attraction of tennis balls or squeaky toys but he's coming around.

He is our first rescue dog and we couldn't be happier with our choice so if you're considering a new dog, why not get down to the Humane Society and check these guys out. They're just waiting to share the love and enrich your life.

Our sincere thanks to the Bend Humane Society, the Harney County Sheriffs Department, Westside Pet Express and Cinder Rock Veterinary Clinic.

We recently visited Bend for the Film Festival and very much enjoyed ourselves, with one small exception. We parked our Ford in the public parking structure, only to find when we returned on Friday night that it had been spat upon, apparently in retribution for our Obama 2012 bumper sticker. I understand that whoever did this was passionate about politics, something I have always shared.

After living in Bend for a year and a half, I recently stopped through on business. I love the town, the people, and all the outdoor beauty the area offers. One of my favorite things about Bend is without question, The Source. From the first time I read it, I knew it would be a cover-to-cover great time for me to enjoy all the stories, community news, the updates on all the music and arts, presentations, and great things goings on around town.
