It's Easy to Vote "Yes" on Measure 76

letter to the editor

Measure 76 makes permanent the current dedication of 15 percent of state lottery proceeds for parks, beaches, wildlife habitat and protection of Oregon's watersheds. Of all the programs funded by this revenue, I am most familiar with the valuable work that the Upper Deschutes Watershed Council does in this region, including restoration projects on Tumalo Creek, Whychus Creek and other streams in the Deschutes and Metolius basins. These projects, managed as regional partnerships, are critical to protecting wildlife habitat and clean water and also promote the reintroduction of native steelhead and salmon.

Measure 76 has a wide coalition of supporters, including business, labor, environmental and educational groups. In fact, I counted 42 separate arguments in favor of Measure 76 in the voters' pamphlet, with zero arguments against. This impressive consensus represents the right way to go about long-term protection and restoration of what is most important to us as Oregonians.

Yes, it is easy to vote yes on Measure 76, and it is important to do so.

  • DO NOT SPIT ON MY CAR

We recently visited Bend for the Film Festival and very much enjoyed ourselves, with one small exception. We parked our Ford in the public parking structure, only to find when we returned on Friday night that it had been spat upon, apparently in retribution for our Obama 2012 bumper sticker. I understand that whoever did this was passionate about politics, something I have always shared.

  • THE SOURCE ROCKS, BUT 'ONE DAY AT A TIME' DOESN'T

After living in Bend for a year and a half, I recently stopped through on business. I love the town, the people, and all the outdoor beauty the area offers. One of my favorite things about Bend is without question, The Source. From the first time I read it, I knew it would be a cover-to-cover great time for me to enjoy all the stories, community news, the updates on all the music and arts, presentations, and great things goings on around town.
