It's More Than Just a Fantasy

After reading Mike Bookey's guest Left Field rant last week, I had to pull back and contemplate the relationship between my Fantasy Fandom and my real life Fandom.

What I've realized is that Books is right. There can be no peace in a household divided between fantasy teams and actual franchises.

So I've made some tough decisions.

Inspired by my hometown Minnesota Vikings miserable sub .500 start to the season, including a near loss to the Detroit - freaking - Lions (0-6) and a NFL bloopers highlight reel, 48-41 loss to the offensively challenged Chicago Bears, I've decided to bench the Vikings for the rest of the year and throw my entire fan cache behind my Fantasy team, which despite a harrowing four-game losing streak is currently riding a strong one-game win streak.

I know some people will say that one win does not a streak make. But, trust me, after four straight ass kickings, it's close enough.

I know what you're thinking... 'Don't do it, man. Your Fantasy team is clearly challenged, and your Vikings are just a game out of a tie for first place. They've got the best running back in the league, a solid offensive line and one of the best run defenses.'

Yes, all this is true.

But as a lifelong Vikings fan I can tell you that the season is over. Just as sure as I knew it was over when Gary Anderson missed that 38-yard-field goal in 1998. Just as sure as I know every season is over when the team folds up like a banquet chair at the first sign of adversity.

My fantasy squad on the other hand, they're a resilient bunch that banded together after a rough patch. And I expect a play-off push. A wild card berth at least.

I chalk it up to good coaching.
