Juniper Takes Hold

Central Oregon says aloha to another new brewery

On Thursday Central Oregon will toast Redmond's Juniper Brewing Co. as it enters the ever expanding fold of brew pubs that have opened up shop in the high desert.

As of press time, owner Curtis Endicott was putting the finishing touches on his 575-square-foot tasting room. Stressed to still be doing construction at this late date, but relieved to have beer ready to pour, Endicott is already looking to the future.

"We hope to get everything wrapped up this weekend," Endicott said of the concrete bar top that is yet to be installed. Though no food will be available at Endicott's intimate brewpub, on Thursday he will have appetizers available, thanks to catering via the Olive Garden. Much more exciting though, are the three beers Juniper will have on tap: Jolly Black (a black ale), Milkman Belgian Wit and Old Roy IPA. There will also be a raffle. Going forward, Juniper will offer tasters, pints and growler fills from its two-barrel brewing system, but because no food service is offered, minors will not be allowed on the premises.

For his part, Endicott is busily prepping for the week ahead. He expects more than 200 people at Thursday's ribbon cutting.

"It's kind of intriguing and scary at the same time."
