Letter of the Week: You Can't Beat Bend

This week's letter comes from Kevin T who cites Bend's karma as the cap off to a great weekend of entertaining friends. Good to hear that the Golden Rule is still honored, at least in local snow parks. Thanks for the letter, Kevin. You can pick up your winner's spoils, a bag of Strictly Organic coffee, at our office, 704 NW Georgia.

Having moved here just three years ago, we've never looked back and love just about every facet of Bend and the surrounding region. My appreciation for the wonderful attitude and overall honesty and integrity we encounter in this community was affirmed recently following the Great Nordeen Nordic Ski Race hosted by MBSEF. The event itself was superbly run, up to and including the perfect winter day and snow conditions obviously arranged by the event organizers. I joined two friends of mine who were visiting from the music Mecca of Denton, Texas, and we proceeded to tie for first place in the "Classic, Waxless" division - a division of our own making; everyone else prudently skated!

In the exuberant hustle of the finish line, surviving the race, and shuttling back to Sunrise Lodge at Bachelor, we promptly forgot one pair of sweet skis and even nicer poles back at Wanoga Snowpark. We discovered our error an hour later back in town and, after a couple of quick phone calls, headed back up to the snow park. There sat the skis and poles, right where we left them!

Over the weekend, our guests enjoyed a classic ski race and awesome live music while tasting great food and superb local beers. The best taste of all was the one they were left with upon discovery of the skis, still intact, and waiting for us to retrieve 'em. That doesn't happen everywhere.

Thanks, Bend!

We recently visited Bend for the Film Festival and very much enjoyed ourselves, with one small exception. We parked our Ford in the public parking structure, only to find when we returned on Friday night that it had been spat upon, apparently in retribution for our Obama 2012 bumper sticker. I understand that whoever did this was passionate about politics, something I have always shared.

After living in Bend for a year and a half, I recently stopped through on business. I love the town, the people, and all the outdoor beauty the area offers. One of my favorite things about Bend is without question, The Source. From the first time I read it, I knew it would be a cover-to-cover great time for me to enjoy all the stories, community news, the updates on all the music and arts, presentations, and great things goings on around town.
