Mike Patton - Mondo Cane

It was 1990. I was 9 and on the TV I watched as Mike Patton, the lead singer in Faith No More, was flopping on the stage like a fish as his band finished playing "Epic" behind him.

It was 1990. I was 9 and on the TV I watched as Mike Patton, the lead singer in Faith No More, was flopping on the stage like a fish as his band finished playing "Epic" behind him. He seized and convulsed and stared dead-eyed at the ceiling.

Who would have guessed that guy would not only become one of the most respected figures in alternative music, but someone who would release an album like Mondo Cane, a classical record that debuted at number 2 on Billboard's Classical charts? A 65-person orchestra backs Patton's unmistakable pipes here as he covers 1950s and '60s Italian pop songs. He embodies the spirit of these original songs, lending an operatic force that is, at times, beautiful and chilling. These are songs he was meant to sing.

Though Patton takes the drama a little far (not as bad as Peeping Tom, but still), Mondo Cane is proof that Patton is much, much more than an epileptic fish-dance. - Leah Sottile

  • DO NOT SPIT ON MY CAR

We recently visited Bend for the Film Festival and very much enjoyed ourselves, with one small exception. We parked our Ford in the public parking structure, only to find when we returned on Friday night that it had been spat upon, apparently in retribution for our Obama 2012 bumper sticker. I understand that whoever did this was passionate about politics, something I have always shared.

  • THE SOURCE ROCKS, BUT 'ONE DAY AT A TIME' DOESN'T

After living in Bend for a year and a half, I recently stopped through on business. I love the town, the people, and all the outdoor beauty the area offers. One of my favorite things about Bend is without question, The Source. From the first time I read it, I knew it would be a cover-to-cover great time for me to enjoy all the stories, community news, the updates on all the music and arts, presentations, and great things goings on around town.
