Zepparella
ROCK—Robert Plant's new album, Lullaby and...The Ceaseless Roar, is considered by critics a step away from his incendiary work with Led Zeppelin. Dirksen Derby Kickoff
PARTY—What has become the de facto early season snowboarder party, the 8th annual Dirksen Derby kicks off this evening with music, giveaways and an art auction of mini-murals painted on, what else, snowboards. Zombies vs. Unicorns
DERBY—Last year, the Unicorns pranced and jabbed their way to victory over the lifeless Zombies in a highly attended Renegade Roller Derby bout. Now, the two teams go head to horn to see if the Zombies can come back from the dead to take those fancy horses down a notch. Doors at 6pm, bout at 7pm. Local Holiday Bazaars
GIFTS—Old Ironworks and Central Oregon Locavore are putting their crafty heads together for a holiday shopping extravaganza. A free shuttle will taxi shoppers between Craft-O and the Locavore Holiday Gift Faire. Each location will have locally-made gifts, food, and music. Craft-O. 10 am-6 pm. Winter Beer Fest
BEER—With a primary focus on winter ales, the inaugural Central Oregon Winter Beer Festival remedies an overdue problem: No wintertime beer festivals! Second Sunday: Fractured Fairy Tales and Myths
POETRY—Award-winning Bend poets Judith Montgomery and Suzanne Burns explore the darker side of common tales and mythical notions, from "Hansel and Gretel" to death itself. Montgomery received the 2000 Oregon Book Award and Burns won the 2013 Diagram Innovative Fiction Prize. Though the two don't write together, their poetry touches on similar themes. Smokey Brights
INDIE—With David Bowie-like starscape compositions mixed with Joy Division's shoe gaze, Seattle band Smokey Brights are polished and wry indie rockers with ear-tickling pop hooks. They call themselves "vintage rock," which accounts for some of their reverb-heavy guitar riffs and Motown-inspired ballads. 9 pm. Volcanic Theatre Pub, 70 SW Century Dr. $5.

FILM—The 2003 film Elf capped off a remarkable breakout year for Will Ferrell, and picks up the common holiday thread of an awkward but earnest misfit (um, Rudolf?) trying to find his way in the jaded world—and, yes, it is still funny to watch him duet "Baby, It's Cold Outside." 6 pm. Morning Ritual with The Shook Twins
FOLK—A collaborative mash-up of composer Ben Darwish and twin singers, Katelyn and Laurie Shook, Portland's Morning Ritual is a match made in folk music heaven. Darwish brings a new dreaminess (and keyboards!) to the sisters' pop-savvy standards, but the music retains all of the sweet singing and hand-in-glove harmonies that the ladies have proven is their specialty. 7 pm.
