Almost Famous shows at the Old Stone Church, May 7, 7 pm. The first film in the Source's FREE See More Seymour series.

thursday 1

Particle Fever

FILM—If you really believe that you have something better to do than watch a movie documenting the beginning of time—and hear a lecture from one of the particle physicists who was part of the Large Hadron Collider re-enactment of the Big Bang—um, can we say, God complex? Sponsored by Sisters Science Club, a special screening of Particle Fever. 7 pm. Sisters Movie House, 720 E Desperado Trail, Sisters. $7.

friday 2

Matt Stillwell

COUNTRY— Registering success with his first single, "Shine," back in 2008, Stillwell's traversed the country music scene, working with a new wave of top-tier talent. The singer relies on the genre's traditional tropes, but makes songs about booze sound as good as the drinks actually taste. 9 pm. Maverick's Country Bar and Grill, 20565 Brinson Blvd. $10.

friday 2

Peter Heller

LITERATURE—Post-apocalyptic lit is trending. And Peter Heller has the genre under his thumb with "The Dog Stars," an imaginary romp into a gloomy, future wasteland, and is the Deschutes Public Library's choice for 2014's "A Novel Idea" series. Think Road Warrior meets A River Runs Through It. 7 pm. Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St. Free, registration required at

saturday 3

Renegade Roller Derby

DEMOLITION—It might be a good idea to wear a helmet even if you're in the stands. The Renegade Roller Derby, a no-rules, no-holds-barred league of women skaters, ends its season this weekend as the Rebel Pinups meet the Saucy Sailors. Catching just this one bout will make you look forward to the next season. 6 pm. Midtown, 51 NW Greenwood Ave. $10. Free for kids younger than 10.

saturday 3

The B Fest Fashion Show

FASHION—The B Fest Fashion Show is the first runway extravaganza to celebrate all things Bend, bikes, boots, beers, babes, beats, boys, Bhuvana, bites, bees and beauty, all on Brooks St. With the help of Cowboy Cash, Crow's Feet Commons combines fashionable and functional, wearable garb and beer drinking. 5 pm. Brook's Plaza, 875 NW Brooks St. Free.

saturday 3

Caravan of Glam

SPARKLES—The high-energy, high-wattage drag cabaret returns to Central Oregon with its unabashed mix of leather, lace, bright colors and Ecstacy Inferno, a force of hair, lipstick and attitude not to be reckoned with. 6 pm. Seven Night Club, 1033 NW Bond. $10.

sunday 4

Jedi Scum

METAL—This is the metal band you've been looking for. It's not too clever, just a bunch of doomy metal compositions, occasionally getting into thrashy tempos and lyrically based on Star Wars' mythology. It's a perfect combination of geekdom pulled from two vastly different worlds. 8 pm. Third Street Pub, 314 SE 3rd St. Free.

monday 5

Steep Canyon Rangers

BLUEGRASS—Seeing a bluegrass band on Cinco de Mayo might seem counterintuitive, but when the Steep Canyon Rangers are in town, there's no other place you should be. The Grammy Award-winning six-piece from North Carolina are the truest of true Appalachian pickers and are collaborators of Steve Martin, who worked with the band for his 2013 album. 7 pm. The Belfry, 302 E Main Ave., Sisters. $25-30.

wednesday 7

See More Seymour

FILM—We begin our tribute to the great American actor Philip Seymour Hoffman with Almost Famous, a movie about rock and roll with one of the greatest, rock-and-roll soundtracks ever and Mr. Hoffman playing the greatest rock-and-roll critic ever, Lester Bangs. 7 pm. Old Stone Church, 157 NW Franklin. Free.

wednesday 7

Orgone vs. Monophonics

FUNK—Get your funk on. The female-fronted Orgone has been at it for more than a decade, dishing out languid horn lines. Monophonics take a more psychedelic approach to its funk, belying Bay-Area origins. Individual and collaborative sets. 9 pm. Domino Room, 51 Greenwood Ave. $15.
