Blemished, a Musical

THEATERBlemished, a Musical was the winner of the 2nd Street Theater's innovative Playwriting Platform, which encouraged local authors to submit works for full production. Written by Bendite Katelyn Alexander, Blemished tells the story of an ex-cabaret singer adjusting to life as a preacher's wife. 7:30 pm. 2nd Street Theater, 220 NE Lafayette. $10.

friday 9

Slamtastic

BASKETBALL—Although the Harlem Wizards say that they don't care about winning—and are more about ball-juggling antics and gravity-defying slamdunks—they still hold the longest winning streak in professional sports, stretching past 2,800 consecutive games. A throwback to another era when basketball teams barnstormed the world, the Wizards are pure crowd-pleasing fun. 6:30 pm. Summit High, 2855 NW Clearwater Dr. $9–12.

saturday 10

Buddy Wakefield

POETRY—Embraced by everyone from singer Ani DiFranco to rapper Sage Francis, Buddy Wakefield uses slam poetry to relate off-kilter stories drawn from his life and imagination. The World Poetry Slam champion is just as likely to opine on people chewing with their mouths open as the awkward spaces that exist between acquaintances. 7 pm. Volcanic Theatre Pub, 70 SW Century Dr. $10.

saturday 10

Bend's Annual Chicken Coop Tour

EGGS—Here's a chance for would-be farmers to learn the ins and outs of tending to chickens in a (relatively) urban environment. In its fourth year, this tour offers an inside glimpse of area coops and how our fowl friends live. Tour booklets available at Cowgirl Cash, High Desert Ranch and Home, CE Lovejoys and Newport Market. 10 am. $10.

saturday 10

Quick and Easy Boys

ROCK—Armed with the three standards of any great rock band (guitar, bass and drums) and its signature battle cry, "Yeah, bud," the Quick and Easy Boys crank out bouncy, garage band, dance-worthy rock. 8 pm. The Belfry, 302 N Main St. Sisters. $8-$10.

monday 12

Will Durst

COMEDY—Seething for decades, comedian Will Durst is still eviscerating those who trouble him. His "BoomeRaging: From LSD to OMG" finds the Comedy Central vet opining on current events and the vagaries of generations younger than his. Proceeds benefit KPOV 88.9 FM. 7:30 pm. Volcanic Theatre Pub, 70 SW Century Dr. $15.

tuesday 13

Natural History Pub: Raptors in the West

BIRDS—The High Desert Museum presents: BIG AWESOME BIRDS! Dr. Pat Kennedy, a specialist in the ecology of avian populations at OSU, discusses research on the many effects of agriculture on raptor populations. Learning is fun! 7 pm. McMenamins, 700 NW Bond St. Free.

tuesday 13

Finding Vivian Maier

FILM—As much visual poetry as journalism, Vivian Maier's photographs chronicle the everyday (and sublime) life in urbane New York City and Chicago, as well as rural France and South America. Although Maier was an intrepid chronicler, little is known about her life. A beautiful and mysterious documentary. 5:30, Tin Pan Theatre, 869 NW Tin Pan Alley. $6.

wednesday 14

Redray Frazier

SOUL MUSIC—A New York City native, weaned on the disparate sounds of David Byrne and Dizzy Gillespie, Redray Frazier has tempered those influences with a mellow west coast influence (he now lives in Portland). The result is a surprising concoction of gospel-infused vocals, backed by a driving blues band that would be as comfortable with Lynyrd Skynyrd as Otis Redding. 7 pm. McMenamins, 700 NW Wall. Free.

wednesday 14

Jesse Cook

FLAMENCO—Canadian flamenco guitarist Jesse Cook defies expectations by merging the genre's fleet fingers on the fretboard with an eclectic band that occasionally includes a violinist and a pair of percussionists. His playing, though, doesn't require those embellishments to hold an audience's attention. 8 pm. Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St. $36-$56.
