Our Picks 6/5-6/12

Beer Pong

BEER PONG—It is such a relatively simple game (toss a small white ball into a beer cup), but somehow so, so, so entrancing. A 2007 Gallup Poll discovered that beer pong actually contributes to a 27 percent reduction in annual productivity at American colleges! And now it is here to drain anything important you had planned for your Thursday nights. 5 pm. Silver Moon Pub, 24 NW Greenwood Ave. Free.

HUMP! with Hopeless Jack and the Handsome Devil

PORN—Sex doesn't have to be a taboo whisper, just ask Dan Savage, sex columnist and gay activist who is bringing his sex positive, amateur porn festival to Bend. Followed by a rock and roll set from Hopeless Jack and the Handsome Devil, porn has never been so creative, hilarious and sexy. 7 pm. Volcanic Theatre Pub, 70 SW Century Dr. $15.

An Evening with David Malis

Nathan Brown

POEMS—What does a poet from Oklahoma write about? Well, a lot of stuff. Frisbee players and Lutherans, anarchists, conversations overheard in bookstores, praying and of course, writing. On the first official west coast tour for an Oklahoma Poet Laureate, Nathan Brown—who also dabbles in music, photography and storytelling—reads from his most recent book of poetry, "Less is More, More or Less." 6:30 pm. Paulina Springs Books, 252 W Hood St. Sisters. $5.

sunday 8

Failure Machine and Patrimony

ROCK—With the throwback scorn of powerful '70s bands that blazed the rock and roll trail 20 years before they were born, and the hair-metal 'dos of the same era, the local boys of Patrimony are years beyond their age in musical comprehension and talent. 9 pm. Volcanic Theatre Pub, 70 SW Century Dr. $5.

monday 9

Asher Fulero Band

ROCK—Oregon native and keyboard hero of studio and stage Asher Fulero (Floydian Slips, Everyone Orchestra, Scott Law, Surrounded By Ninjas) leads his new high-energy funky jam rock band with a solid mix of catchy, imaginative original songs, exploratory instrumentals, and classic covers of favorites from Pink Floyd, Phish, Steely Dan, Peter Gabriel and more obscure songs. The band is fueled by its improvisatory nature and Fulero's impressive piano technique. 7pm. Old St. Francis School, Father Luke's Room. Free.
