Mickey Avalon

This glam rapper is super, super raunchy - and is actually quite hilarious, whether intentionally or unintentionally - and you can learn about the man behind the potty jokes in this week's Sound section. $20/adv at Bendticket.com, $25/door. All ages. 9pm. Domino Room, 51 NW Greenwood Ave.

Empty Space Orchestra,
Boy Eats Drum Machine

friday 21

As ESO continues their ongoing January Friday-night residency at the Silver Moon, they bring to town the wild one-man Portland band known as Boy Eats Drum Machine. His real name is John Ragel and when he's onstage, he blends electronic dance sound by way of turntable as well as plenty of live instrumentation. In case you're having trouble visualizing how this works, the main thing you need to know is that this is going to be a hell of a dance party. Oh, and then Empty Space will get up their and light your hair on fire... so yeah, not a bad night. This week's opening act is Boy Eats Drum Machine from Portland. $5/adv at bendticket.com. $7/door. $15/adv for all four shows. 9pm. Silver Moon Brewing Co., 24 NW Greenwood Ave.

Fine Line Comedy Showcase

friday 21

Another week, another new comedy show here in Bend. At this show at the Summit, Jake Woodmansee (who you will probably remember from his appearances at Central Oregon's Last Comic Standing) welcomes a bevy of local comics. It's going to be high-larious! $5. 7pm-9pm. The Summit Saloon & Stage, 125 NW Oregon Ave.

Cicada Omega

Saturday 22

This band, which uses a variety of bizarre instruments, some of them homemade, plays a quirky style of fiery blues mixed with some easily danceable trance licks. If you haven't seen this Portland band on one of their previous stops in Bend, stop by this surefire party at the Moon. $5. 9pm. Silver Moon Brewing Co., 24 NW Greenwood Ave.

Renegade Roller Derby Bout: Army vs. Navy

saturday 22

Although they're a good month late to match up with the historic football rivalry game, the Renegade Rollergirls are lacing up the skates for this military-themed event. After the bout, there's a party up in the Annex with live music. All ages. $10. Kids under 10 free. 8pm. Midtown Ballroom, 51 NW Greenwood Ave.

Brent Alan and
his Funky Friends

saturday 22

This house concert is taking place at The Barn in Sisters, a historic dairy barn that's been host to several of these shows in the past. Now, Brent Alan and his band, aptly named his "Funky Friends," will get the place moving in style with their rock, funk and jam-rock sounds. 7pm-9:30pm. The Barn at Pine Meadow Ranch, 68467 Three Creeks Road, Sisters

The Dark Side of Oz

saturday 22

Dude, did you know that if you play Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and screen The Wizard of Oz at the same time, they synch up and just about blow your brain out of the top of your skull? Totally true. That's why BendFilm is bringing this basement pastime up to the Tower Theatre for a FREE late-night screening, following the family-friendly Oz sing-a-long earlier in the night. 10pm, Saturday, Jan 22. Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St.

2nd Annual Chili Cook-Off
and Rail Jam

sunday 23

Remember that episode of The Simpsons when Homer eats the hottest bowl of chili at a cook off and goes on an all-night spice-induced freak out? Well, we promise you that won't happen at this charity event, which features more than a dozen of Bend's restaurants competing to see who makes the best bowl of chili. There's also a rail jam, featuring talented local riders shredding it up on trucked-in snow. $10/ages 12 & over, $5 ages 6-11, free under 5. Proceeds benefit the Education Foundation. 2pm Sunday, Jan 23. Athletic Club of Bend, 61615 Athletic Club Dr.

Dawes

tuesday 25

We had to do a double-take when we got the last-minute announcement that Dawes, a fabulous indie folk quartet out of Los Angeles, would be coming to the Silver Moon. The band is on a tour of much larger rooms in much larger cities, so this is a major coup to have them here in Bend. Remember when they opened that ridiculously awesome Band of Horses show at the Les Schwab Amphitheater over Memorial Day weekend? Yeah, they're good. $7. 9pm. Silver Moon Brewing Co., 24 NW Greenwood Ave.

The Pimps of Joytime

thursday 27

Thanks to the good gods of funky parties, this Brooklyn-based multi-genre collective is coming back to Bend. And how about the fact that the Pimps - best known for their mash ups of dance music, indie rock and world sounds - are playing for free! Free. 7pm. McMenamins Old St. Francis School
