This week's picks we are sure you will enjoy.

Redwood Son & The Forestry

wednesday 13

Singer/ songwriter Josh Malm has the rare ability to combine alt-Americana integrity with pop vibrancy. His music has the light playfulness of Jack Johnson, if Johnson had been inspired by tall trees rather than sandy beaches. Voted “Best New Artist" of the Portland Music Awards in 2011, Redwood Son’s simple catchy and folky songs unravel the yarns of Malm’s childhood in Northern California and beyond. Free. All ages. 7pm. McMenamins Old St. Francis School, 700 NW Bond St.

Avery James will growl his gothic blues, and Kentucky's Long Rifle will shake the house with their high-energy dirt bag rock. 8pm.  $10 at Bendticket.com. 21+. The Horned Hand 507 NW Colorado Ave.

The Yawpers

sunday 17

This Boulder, CO trio plays gritty, country infused rock n’ roll. Their revival Americana sounds like a blend of Wilco and Bruce Springsteen, with a dash of that classic Colorado bluegrass reminiscent of Yonder Mountain String Band. Add dynamic gravely vocals and song structures with the drama of early ‘90s Garth Brooks, and you’ve got a matched recipe for rollicking indie-country rock and boot stompin’. $9 at Bendticket.com. You must be 18+ or w/ adult to attend. 8pm. The Sound Garden 1279 NE 2nd St.
