Our Picks for 10/21 - 10/29: Art For India, Warren Miller's Dynasty, Larry and His Flask

Our picks for what events to check out in Central Oregon this week.

Jubelale Art Tour
thursday 22 to thursday 29
Are you the type of person who argues with friends about the all-time best label for Deschutes Brewery's Jubelale? Yeah, so are we. We recommend fans of the winter brew check out all the artwork from the 22 different labels at this traveling art show. Taste the beer, too! 10/22, 6-8pm at Jackson's Corner. 10/23, 5-7pm at PoetHouse Art. 10/28, 6-8pm at 900 Wall. 10/29, 5-7pm at Greg's Grill.

Larry and His Flask
friday-saturday 23 and 24
There may be a day when the acoustic punks of Larry and His Flask sit down, kick up their road-battered feet and say, "Hey, let's take a break." But we have no evidence that such a day is coming, an assertion backed up by the fact that after playing two shows on back-to-back nights in Bend, LAHF is hitting the road for yet another tour. Friday at the Domino Room (8:30pm, $6 with Tater Famine and Ether Circus) and Saturday at Silver Moon Brewing Co. (9pm, $3).

Warren Miller's Dynasty
friday-saturday 23 and 24
Since we've already had a massive snowstorm, it doesn't feel that strange to be gearing up for the annual Warren Miller film screenings in mid-October. This year's installment, Dynasty, takes a look at the ski film company of record's 60 years in the business with some fresh footage combined with some classically vintage shots from the company's vaults. As always, there will be athletes on hand and giveaways to get your mountain jones running. Go to bendticket.com to purchase tickets. Showings Oct 23 and 24 at both 6pm and 9pm. Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St.

Witness Your World presents Shinyribs with Kevin Russell of the Gourds
saturday 24
This is a benefit show that donates proceeds to non-profit agencies working in Uganda and should draw some attention seeing that Kevin Russell of the Gourds is performing with his other band, Shinyribs. Moon Mountain Rambler's Mai is also on the bill. 7pm. $25. Old Stone Church, 157 NW Franklin Ave.

Phone Calls from Home, Count Your Blessings
saturday 24
Those looking for a rare pop-punk experience here in Central Oregon will find it with Boston's Phone Calls from Home, who are playing along with tour mates Count Your Blessings, an equally poppy outfit. This all-ages show (one of the only ones for the weekend) is rounded out by locals Capture the Flag, We are Brontosaurus and Slut. $5. 6:30pm. Rise Up International, 1560 NE 1st St., Ste 8. $5. All Ages.

Poor Man's Whiskey performs Dark Side of the Moonshine
saturday 24
Check out our featured Sound story this week and see why you should go to this bluegrassified yet strongly psychedelic adaptation of the Pink Floyd classic. Wizard of Oz iconography and costumes surrounds this show, and we're guessing you know why. 8pm doors, 9pm show. Domino Room, 51 NW Greenwood Ave. $15/advance, $20/door. Tickets at Ranch Records and brownpapertickets.com.

Art For India Fundraiser
sunday 25
This benefit, which features the work of more than 40 artists, raises funds to provide education to more than 250 impoverished children in Bodhgaya, India. There's food, drink, a silent auction, as well as a slide show outlining Rise Up International's work in India. Providing the music are Leif James, The Autonomics and Chris Chabot. And how cool is it that it's in the old Boomtown record store location?! $15/adults, $10/under 21, Free under 10. 5pm-9pm Sunday, Oct 25. Old Boomtown Location, 910 NW Harriman St.

Jail Weddings
sunday 25
Ever wonder what would happen if you took the Decemberists, made them into a ten piece and forced them to listen exclusively to the teenage-focused pop of the early 1960s? Well, you just might get the Jail Weddings, a Los Angeles-based collective that is as retro as it is bizarrely awesome. Whenever a band has an all female crew of backup singers, they're worth paying attention to. The Jail Wedding's sound is alluring, for sure, but the challenge will be to see if they can all fit on the Silver Moon "stage." $5. 7pm. Silver Moon Brewing Co., 24 NW Greenwood Ave.

The Heavy, Mosley Wotta
wednesday 28
In a case of big-band-comes-to-a-small-venue, UK soul rockers the Heavy very well might destroy the Silver Moon. Make sure you're there to see it. Check out the On Stage column for more on this act. $10. 9pm. Silver Moon Brewing Co., 24 NW Greenwood Ave.
