Aaron Meyer Holiday Concert

How often do you get to see holiday concerts by a "rock violinist?" This is actually the first time the esteemed Aaron Meyer, one of the Northwest's most well-known players, has performed his holiday show in Bend. Turn to page 23 for more. $25. Tickets at 7pm. Old Stone Church, 157 NW Greenwood Ave.

friday 11

There is snow on the ground, and plenty of it, but that won't even start to slow down the zany cyclocross riders who will descend on the town this weekend. Celebrate the races in style with this big blowout party, featuring a performance by the Sprockettes, Portland's premiere synchronized mini-bike troupe. There's also live music by two of Bend's best in Mosley Wotta and the Dirty Words and a cozy knitted bike by B.Y.O.B. Check out our cyclocross events calendar in the Culture section for a complete rundown of the weekend's happenings. 6pm. Midtown Ballroom, 51 NW Greenwood Ave.

Bicycle Art Walk

friday 11

If you missed last week's first Friday festivities, you get another chance this week with a special bicycle-oriented art walk featuring plenty of bicycle-themed art scattered around downtown. Friday, Dec 11. Downtown Bend.

Bob Schneider

saturday 12

This Austin-based songwriter has gathered a dedicated following around the country over the past few years and the success the recently released Lovely Creatures has done nothing but help escalate his reputation. His music ranges from punchy folk numbers to soft rockers, all tied together by his seemingly instinctive songwriting skills. This may sound trite, but there's something for everyone with this guy. $16/adv, 18/door. 21 and over. 9pm. The Annex, 51 NW Greenwood Ave.

Erin Cole-Baker CD Release

saturday 12

This party celebrates the release of the well-known singer-songwriter's new full-length album, Talon and Spur. Read a review of the disc in our Sound section. $10/adv at Ranch Records and Backporch Coffee or $12/door. 7pm. Liberty Theatre, 849 NW Wall St.

Wreck the Halls - LCRD Bout

saturday 12

The holiday spirit is everywhere, even in the roller derby ranks. The Lava City Roller Dolls welcome you to come "Wreck the Halls" with them for the last bout of the calendar year. This bout is hosted by Bend's own Smoking Ashes. That just sounds tough, doesn't it? $10/adv, $12/door. 6pm Saturday, Dec 12. Central Oregon Indoor Sports Center, 20795 High Desert Ln.

Dan Shanahan
CD Release Party

saturday 12

A new name to the local music scene, Dan Shanahan, purveys crafty and often-poppy numbers on his debut disc, Waiting on My Train. Hopefully, we'll see this guy on the scene more often. Opening the show is Jared Delaney and Dan and the Steam Engines. 8:30pm. Poethouse Art, 55 NW Minnesota Ave.

Dirksen Derby

sunday 13

The annual goofball racing event, named after local boarding hero Josh Dirksen, is back once again, featuring all the comedy and skill we've become accustomed to. There's also plenty of schwag to be won - which is a plus. All proceeds go to benefit Tyler Eklund, the injured local snowboarder. $25. Registration from 8-10am in the lower level of the West Village Lodge. 8am. Mt. Bachelor, 13000 Century Dr.

Rita Coolidge Christmas

sunday 13

OK, we've heard rumors that this show is sold out, but if you can find a friend with an extra ticket, it would be worth chumming up to them to get in the door for this holiday-themed show by a vocal legend and Grammy winner. Coolidge, who's got more hits under her belt than Ichiro, will be performing with the Youth Choir of Central Oregon. 7:30pm. Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St.

Wildwood Ave.

thursday 17

There are some bands that play a different bar in the area seemingly every weekend. Then, there are other acts that do the opposite, laying low, working on their craft in the basement. Wildwood Ave. definitely belongs to the latter category, and will now finally play their first show... which also happens to be their last, considering front man Aaron Schmalz is moving to Hawaii in a few weeks. So see these funky jam rockers while you can. Free. 8pm. Silver Moon Brewing Co., 24 NW Greenwood Ave.
