Bent Blog Launch Party

thursday 24

Yes, there are a couple of big shows going down on Thursday night (see below) but before you head out to Greenwood Avenue, you should come over to Velvet and say hello to the staff of the Source, who will be celebrating the launch of our new(ish) blog, Bent. We're giving away hella (yeah, we mean hella) CDs, books and other stuff. Also, the drinks are cheap. 7pm. Velvet, 805 NW Wall St.

thursday 24

The New Orleans-based funk machine is descending on the Domino Room for what's going to be one heck of a party. Along with the jammy funksters of Galactic will be Cyril Neville and Corey Henry of Rebirth Brass Band, just to add some brassy Crescent City vibes. Jazz, brass and funk. DJ Smoke opens. $22/adv, $25/door. All ages. 9pm. Domino Room, 51 NW Greenwood Ave.

Igor & The Red Elvises

thursday 24

If you'd rather forego the funk jam on the other side of the street, you can hop over to the Silver Moon for some Siberian rockabilly and surf rock from one of Bend's favorite touring acts, The Red Elvises. This band packs a ton of Russian ferocity into their big stage show, which is probably going to get the Silver Moon all sweaty and fun. Brian Hinderberger opens. $12/door. 9pm. Silver Moon Brewing Co., 24 NW Greenwood Ave.

L.A. Guns, Prophets of Addiction

friday 25

We had to look this one up, just to make sure it was correct, but yes, L.A. Guns, the storied hair-rock band that hails from its namesake city, is indeed coming to Bend. This version of the band, fronted by Phil Lewis, had some big hits in the late 1980s when they burst off the Sunset Strip and into stardom after part of the initial lineup went on to become Guns N Roses. Prophets of Addiction open. 8:30pm. Domino Room, 51 NW Greenwood Ave.

Pine Party

friday 25

Mt. Bachelor is again taking advantage of the longer days this season with the return of the Pine Parties. This is an opportunity to hit up the mountain (there's a lot of snow up there, too) after work and pump in a few runs on the Pine Marten chair from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. for a mere $20. After you've gone up and down the hill, check out free live music by Etouffee, grab a pint and watch the sunset. Mt. Bachelor.

Tom Grant Band

friday-sunday 25-27

The Oxford Hotel continues its excellent series of regional jazz shows this weekend with a trio of shows from the Tom Grant Band, a skilled crew out of Portland fronted by the namesake pianist and vocalist. Tickets have been going fast for these shows and it looks like the Friday and Saturday night shows have already sold out, but there are some spots left for Sunday morning's brunch. 8pm, Friday and Saturday; 11:30am Sunday. Tickets at The Oxford Hotel, 10 NW Minnesota Ave.

Arturo Sandoval

saturday 26

If you don't have tickets for Saturday night's Oxford show, you can head over to the Tower for your jazz fix, this time with an Afro-Cuban twist. Legendary trumpeter Arturo Sandoval is in town and we had a chance to chat with him. Check out the Sound section for more on this sure-to-be spicy show. $37/$42. 7:30pm. Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St.

Renegade Roller Derby:
Jocks vs. Nerds

saturday 26

There was a time when jocks and nerds were mortal enemies, the former terrorizing the latter in the hallways of high schools and the latter punishing the former in the years to come by delaying pay raises and promotions. (Because the nerds became the bosses, get it?) Hopefully, some of that acrimony has settled down, but the Renegade Roller Derby is reviving the age-old rivalry with this Jocks vs. Nerds showdown at the Midtown. After party at The Annex with live music. $10. Kids 10 and under free. 8pm Saturday, Mar 26. Midtown Ballroom, 51 NW Greenwood Ave.

2nd Annual Roller Rumble

tuesday 29

You didn't think sitting on a stationary bike could make for such exciting competition, did you? Well, you've never been to a Roller Rumble at the Silver Moon, where stationary cyclists race each other on a virtual course, all for your beer-drinking pleasure. Sign in at 6:30pm to race. Races begin at 7pm. Silver Moon Brewing Co., 24 NW Greenwood Ave.

The Ascetic Junkies,
Boy Eats Drum Machine

wednesday 30

What do these two acts have in common? Well, they're both from Portland and they've both played insanely awesome shows in Bend over the course of the past year. Now, they're going to do that again, but for free. The Ascetic Junkies play an awesome blend of Americana and indie rock, while BEDM plays just about everything you can think of during his one-man-band set. And again, this show is totally free. Boy Eats Drum Machine opens. 7pm. McMenamins Old St. Francis School, 700 NW Bond St.

Tuesdays with Morrie

through April 3

Chances are, if you haven't read the novel version of this story, someone you know has. The outrageously popular autobiographical story takes to the stage this week at Cascade Theatrical Company's Greenwood Playhouse, telling of Mitch Albom's interactions with Morrie Schwartz, his former college professor. Runs through April 3. Performances Wednesdays through Saturday at 7:30pm, Sun at 2pm. $20/adult, $15/senior, $12/student. Greenwood Playhouse, 148 NW Greenwood Ave.
