Our Picks for 5/4 - 5/12: Cinco de Mayo Party, Moon Mountain Ramblers, Last Band Standing, Bend Bicycle Film Festival, Chicken Coop Tour and more

What are you doing this week in Central Oregon? Here are our picks.

Cinco de Mayo Party: Ozomatli, Rubblebucket, Todd Haaby & Sola Via

thursday 5

There is plenty going on for Cinco de Mayo: Brandi Carlile is playing the Tower Theatre for a show that's already sold out. Cash'd Out will be doing its best Man in Black impression at the Domino Room and there are plenty of other parties. But where many of you will find yourself is out on Wall Street where Ozomatli jams its cross-cultural rock, hip-hop and more with a big assist from the horn heavy and spacy sounds of Rubblebucket. Also on hand, Todd Haaby and Sola Via, and plenty of Mexican arts and crafts, Mexican food and Mexican beers. Free. 4:30pm-10pm. Downtown Bend on Wall Street.

Cinco de Mayo Bash with Moon Mountain Ramblers

thursday 5

After the big outdoor party comes to an end, you'll likely want to keep the Cinco de Party going, which you can do at the Summit where bluegrass rockers Moon Mountain Ramblers are playing while the bar serves up drink specials. Bluegrass on Cinco de Mayo? Sure, why not? 9:30pm. The Summit Saloon & Stage, 125 NW Oregon Ave.

Last Band Standing

friday 6

Has it already been a year? Apparently, it has, which means that Central Oregon's Last Band Standing is back, this year taking up residency at the Century Center. The first week of competition features sets from the following bands: Still Fear, The Vaulted, Tuck and Roll, Matt Borden and the MFB. Entry is free, but tickets are required and available at local retailers listed at www.clear1017.fm 8pm. Century Center, 70 SW Century Dr.

Central Oregon Idol Finals

friday 6

The same night as Last Band Standing kicks off, there's another musical competition at the Old Stone with the finals of the Cental Oregon Idol contest. As the name implies, this singing competition is modeled after the hit Fox show, but this version features 10 local performers vying for the top prize. 7pm, Old Stone Church, 157 NW Franklin Ave. Free.

Bend Bicycle Film Festival

friday 6

With all the local cycling talent we have in these parts, you'd hope that some of it has been captured on film... and it has, as evidenced by this festival of locally produced films that capture our love of two-wheel fun. Who knows, you might even see some of your buddies up on the big screen. Ride your bike to the festivities and you'll be treated to valet bike parking in front of the theater. $12. $8/ages 12 and under. 7pm Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St.

TRASHformations Earth Party

friday 6

A few weeks ago, a group of people got together to make artistic creations out of what others might have considered to be junk for a well-known event called Trashformations. On Friday, though, the public will get its first glimpse of these works of art in and around Lahaina Galleries. Trust us, you've never seen trash look this good. 5pm-8pm. Lahaina Galleries, 425 SW Powerhouse Dr # 307.

COCC Cinco de Mayo Celebration

saturday 7

Technically, this event should probably be called Siete de Mayo, given that it takes place a few days after the traditional date for the Mexican celebration, but this event up on the hills of COCC nevertheless looks fun. Head up for traditional Mexican food, folklore dancing, live music and games for everyone. $5 suggested donation. Proceeds go to a scholarship fund to help COCC Latino program students. 6pm-11pm. COCC's Campus Center.

Second Annual Chicken
Coop Tour

saturday 7

A tour of chicken coops? Does this sound interesting? Well, to a large contingent of Bendites, the answer is a resounding "yes," judging from the huge turnout last year's inaugural installment of the event received. This tour takes you through 35 coops with the help of a tour booklet that serves as the ticket for your carload of people. Purchase booklets at bendchickens.com. 10am-4pm.

The Devil Makes Three

sunday 8

One of Bend's new favorite bands is this southern Oregon trio that excellently provides a totally acoustic but punk-inspired take on vintage American blues. The last time they rolled through town, these dudes (and dudette) had the Domino Room going crazy, so if you missed it last time, don't make the same mistake twice.

Adler's Appetite

thursday 12

Do you have a thing for the former drummer of Guns N' Roses? If you're one of the 30-somethings who just raised your hand, you should check out Steven Adler's eponymous hard rocking band. Kleverkill, Willie Basse open. All ages. $10/adv. 8:30pm. Domino Room, 51 NW Greenwood ave

Boxcar Stringband

thursday 12

Get your boots stomping for this local blues-meets-indie-rock group. Learn more about them in this week's Sound feature. Free show. 7pm-10pm. McMenamins Old St. Francis School, 700 NW Bond St.

Elena Undone

thursday 12

BendFilm, Central Oregon Gay-Straight Alliance and the Human Dignity present this screening of a film that tells the story of two young women who, somewhat unexpectedly and against all odds, fall in love. Following the screening, there's a Q&A with writer/director, Nicole Conn and executive producer Marina Rice Bader. $10. 7pm-9:30 pm. Hitchcock Auditorium, COCC.
