The Clear Summer Nights concert series kicks off in a major way on Thursday night with a sure-to-rock performance by the friendliest man in the business, Brett Dennen. The smooth-singing redhead is touring in support of his latest album, Loverboy, and is joined by Los Angeles throwback rock act, Dawes, who show off their bluesy indie-rock sound with their new album, Nothing is Wrong. Judging by how many people (about a billion, give or take) entered our contest for tickets to this show, Dennen is likely to pack the ACB courtyard. $20 advance tickets at Newport Market. 6:30pm. 4th Anniversary Party of the Poet House

For four years the Poet House has provided a place for young artists to not only hang their work and but also their hat — a refuge for the misunderstood. The PoHo’s “Grand STILL Opening,” kicks off at 5pm with music from Justin Lavik, Grace Laxson, Brad Jones, and Jason Schweitzer and apps and drinks follow from 7pm-9pm. We at the Source have a tradition this time of year. We gather around a computer and collectively gasp at the deliberate insanity that is the Gathering of the Juggalos infomercial. If you don’t know what the Gathering is, it’s essentially a collection of super crazy black-and-white-face-painted fans of the Insane Clown Posse who call themselves Juggalos and spray each other with cheap soda and stuff like that. We were shocked when in minute 12 or so of the infomercial, they announced that Tech N9ne would be appearing because he’s playing here in Bend, meaning some on the Juggalo fringe won’t have to drive out to Michigan for the Gathering. Also on the bill with this Kansas City rapper are: Krizz Kaliko, Kutt Calhoun, Big Scoob, Jay Rock, Mayday, Steve Stone and Maintain. Tickets $26/$30 at the door. 7pm. Midtown Ballroom
