Go. See. This. Band. After big shows at the Silver Moon and the Bite of Bend, there is reason for our region to love this Portland-based pop and indie folk act. Fronted by Kali Giaritta and Matt Harmon, the band excellently blends Americana sounds with a modern and poppy edge. Erin Cole-Baker Band opens. Free! 7pm. Cyclocross Series

Ahhh! It's starting to smell like fall outside. And by fall we mean dirt, bicycle tires, and a faint hint of blood. This can only mean one thing: it's time for Cyclocross to begin in Central Oregon, and what better way to get stoked for the Cross Nationals than with the weekly Thursday night series that runs from Sep 2 - 30. Riders get a chance to preview the terrain that will be used for the new time trial cross course at Cross Nationals, perhaps giving them a leg up. For bystanders, Cyclocross is one of the most exciting races to watch, and will no doubt make you a fan. $12/race, or all four races prior for $40. Riders can register in advance at WebCyclery. The Little Woody
Barrel-Aged Beer Festival

Well, thank the great gods of beer that this event is back for a second year. Celebrating the unique craft of barrel-aged brewing, the Little Woody features every Central Oregon brewery, as well as some out-of-town beer makers like Ninkasi. And this year, the festival has a bourbon tasting, too. But rather than drool all over this page, flip to our complete guide of the event in this issue. $6 entry. Friday 5-10pm. Chances are you've been perusing local art during First Friday and noticed a flock of bicycle riders doing laps around downtown, often times in crazy apparel, such as super hero costumes. This First Friday, join in the fun by dressing in your best blue collar costume and donning whatever accessories you think fit, it is Labor Day weekend after all. Hop on your cruiser (or any bike) and meet up at the Bend City Hall parking lot for three laps around downtown. After the crit, cap the evening off with cold pints at McMenamins. 8pm. Do you like Tom Petty, like, more than a friend? If so, you should hustle yourself down to this event at Tart Bistro during the art walk where local musicians will be playing Petty tunes all night. Labor Day weekend is a busy one here in town, you know, with all the out-of-towners getting that last burst of summer in before sending the kids back to school. Expect this art walk to be one of the biggest of the year, with a clear night forecast and tons of interesting exhibits throughout downtown, in the Old Mill and elsewhere in town.

Green Team Movie Night

Each month, the Green Team meets at First Presbyterian Church to watch films that will make you think, whether about searching for an end to poverty or exploring ways to be greener. This month, the group screens Howard Zinn: You Can't Be Neutral on a Moving Train, a 2004 documentary narrated by Matt Damon, about the historian and activist, Howard Zinn, who passed away just this year. The Thermals, The Autonomics
