The B-Foundation, Mirf the Bing
friday 19
These guys rolled through in October to fill the opening slot for Slightly Stoopid and now they're back with their own headlining show and hopefully a full tank of gas. We'll let you in on that inside joke - all you have to do is flip the page and give a read to the story about the band. Oh yeah, show up early to this one and take in a set from the youthful reggae dudes of Mirf the Bing. All ages, 8pm doors, 9pm show. $10. Domino Room, 51 NW Greenwood Ave.
Leif James Acoustic Set
friday 19
Parrilla is holding another concert series, but unlike the summer edition, this one is thankfully indoors. This week brings Mr. Leif James and his Springsteenian voice and well-crafted acoustic folk numbers. 7pm. Parrilla Grill, 635 NW 14th St.
Ski for Schools Day
friday 19
It finally snowed! Holy crap! It turns out that snow dance we did (it was like the Macarena, but faster and a trace more sexy) ended up working. The mountain is now open and the rescheduled Ski for Schools Day is actually happening this time. It's a good chance to take a "personal day" and get a bargain basement priced day of skiing. Pre-sale prices end December 17, "Last Chance" sale December 18 at Zydeco Kitchen & Cocktails. Go to mtbachelor.com for info. Friday, Dec 19. Mt. Bachelor, 13000 SW Century Dr. (800) 829-2442. $15/pre-sale, $20/"Last Chance".
A Christmas Carol
friday-monday 19-22
Even if you like to pride yourself on avoiding all things Christmas (other than taking that day off of work) you can't avoid some traditions. And one of those traditions is taking in a performance in one form or another of Dickens' A Christmas Carol. While the Bill Murray classic Scrooged, is likely to be checked out from your local video store, there's a real-live version of the story on stage at the Tower and performed by the Bend Experimental Theater. Call for tickets and times. Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St. 317-0700. $25/adult, $12/children.
SPL & Chase Enoch
saturday 20
SPL (aka Sam Pool) very well might be the most widely known artist to emerge from the local music scene, yet there's a chance that you've never heard of the dude. Well, SPL is now based in Portland and still plays shows all over the world - spinning a darkened take on drum and bass, while also creating mixes that incorporate everything from techno to hardcore. Pool is celebrating his birthday and is inviting you to dance along in his hometown at this late-night party. 10:30pm. Old Mill Martini Bar, 360 SW Powerhouse Dr.
Mass Transit
saturday 20
Although this project is sometimes unfortunately lost in the mix of the local hip-hop scene, Mass Transit is known to put on a killer show, as it should at this Silver Moon appearance. A little info on Mass Transit: the project is anchored by drummer/producer/MC/multi-taskmaster Don Felix Trabajo, who is known for dishing out an organic and original take on the genre of hip-hop. 8pm. Silver Moon Brewing Co, 24 NW Greenwood Ave.
Moon Mountain Ramblers
saturday 20
There are a few things to note about this show. First off, it's going down at Three Creeks Brewing Co. out in Sisters-which has potential for becoming one of the cowboy town's key hangouts. Secondly, there's a good chance you could hear some new tunes from Moon Mountain Ramblers, who haven't played in town for a little while now, but are on the verge of releasing a new disc. For more info on the band's new album and CD release party, check the On Stage box in the Sound section of the paper. 8pm. $7. Three Creeks Brewing Co. 721 Desperado Ct., Sisters.
Mostest Monday, SIN Night
monday 22
As is the norm this time of year, things are about to really slow down this week as the holidays approach, so get out while you can. This show by the Mostest could be a nice pre-holiday effort to shake a tail feather or two while enjoying killer jams from the Mostest and their holiday guests, Tim Schroeder and Lindsey Elias. After Mark Ransom and the Mostest wrap up their set, stick around for some hits from the '80s with DJ Action starting at 9:15pm. 7pm. Free. Bendistillery Martini Bar, 850 NW Brooks St.
