Mobile Five Jazz Quintet
It's great to see jazz popping up in town, as evidenced by this show, after the genre went underground upon the closing of Be Bop two years ago. This fivesome, which includes jazz students both local and from the University of Oregon as well as accomplished players, serves up both original material and arrangements of standard jazz repertoire. 8pm. $10, $7/students. Tower Theatre, 835 NW Wall St.
Relay for Life Fundraiser
The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life is around the corner (June 13 and 14) but this year organizers are getting a head start with this fundraising event. Essentially a garden party complete with food and drinks, the event also features the soulful acoustic sounds of the Quons - the local musically (and actually) married couple. 4pm-7pm. Jackson's Corner, 845 NW Delaware Ave. 647-2198. Free.
Known for her work with Portland acoustic trio, Dirty Martini, Schneiderman is also a gem to see solo. When she's out on her own, her style amps up a bit with punchy lyrics, a tasty backbeat coupled with ambient sounds. 7pm. Free. McMenamins Old St. Francis School. 700 NW Bond St.
