Golden Girls Live: A Christmas Special

Rose, Blanche, Dorothy, and Sophia—all played by adult men in pantyhose—celebrate Christmas the only way they know how…with quick witted comebacks and holiday cheer. Twenty two years after the show went off the air, the foursome’s bitchy banter is as sharp and hilarious as ever. 7 pm. Funhouse Lounge. $20.

Winter Wonderland Light Show

The light displays at Portland International Raceway are truly as mesmerizing as a Pink Floyd laser show, with dozens of displays that—in green and red lights—manage to tell stories and convey true holiday spirit. The three story-high light displays that look as if Santa is whooshing down and launching from a ski jump makes the Griswald display look meek. Throughout the season, the raceway hosts its own radio station that pumps Christmas tunes out of your car as you slowly lap the raceway, and watch the lights. 5 pm-9 pm, Sun-Thurs, 5 pm-11 pm, Fri & Sat. Portland International Raceway. $18/car.

New Year’s Bash March Fourth Marching Band

Blaring horns, quirky costumes and enchanting dancers. Between the high-energy tunes of the March Fourth Marching Band and the seductive shimmies of Soulfire Sacred Dance Ensemble, this New Year’s bash is sure to have you on your feet, grooving your way into January. And really, is there a more Portland way to ring in the New Year than with a bedazzled brass band and enlightened bellydancers? (Catch March Fourth in Bend at WinterFest this February.) 8 pm. Alberta Rose Theatre. $25-$45.

Esmé Patterson

Ms. Patterson is a feminist. Her most recent album, Woman to Woman is a collection of songs written from the perspective of the underdeveloped namesakes in classic songs… Townes Van Zandt’s “Loretta,” The Beatles’ “Eleanor Rigby,” and The Beach Boys “Caroline No.” The stories she weaves for each of these mysterious feminine figures are gorgeous compositions draped in her fun and frivolous vocals. 7 pm. Al’s Den. Free.
