Benjamin Gibbard

Death Cab for Cutie front man Ben Gibbard recently released his long awaited second solo album titled Former Lives. Although the album sounds like it may be an homage to Gibbard's ex-wife, Zooey Deschanel, he claims that Former Lives spans three relationships. Deschannel herself sings backup on the track "Something's Rattling." So, no dramatic dish here. On his home turf in Washington, Gibbard will play the intimate Washington Hall, offering a rare opportunity to enjoy his music up close and personal. If you miss him in Seattle, he will also be performing at The Crystal Ballroom in Portland on Sunday with Damien Jurardo. 7 p.m., Washington Hall.

People Under the Stairs

Since their formation in 1998, People Under the Stairs have managed to become one of the most successful fully independent hip-hop duos in history. Thes One and Double K have performed more than 1,000 sold out shows on six continents, in 40 different countries. Their DIY philosophy has allowed "The P" to self-manage, produce and engineer seven full-length albums. People Under the Stairs believe that by removing middlemen and labels artists can, and should, have a direct relationship with their fans. This "Secret House Party" performance will include guest DJs Kublakai and Luke Rain. 8 p.m., Neumos.

Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein

IFC's sketch comedy show Portlandia capitalizes on the weirdness that is Portland. If you keep a careful eye on the show you're likely to see some of your SE dwelling, hipster friends in the background of scenes. Creators Armisen, of SNL, and Brownstein, former guitarist and vocalist for Sleater-Kinney, bring you Portlandia: A Guide For Visitors, a travel guide of Portland landmarks in the same sarcastic tone that Armisen and Brownstein have developed on the show. Guaranteed to have plenty of birds on it. Free book with tickets to this live, standup event. 7 p.m. Bagdad Theater.

thursday 22

Turkey Trot at the Zoo

Take a jog before the face-stuffing holiday season begins. Held on Thanksgiving Day, this four-mile run/walk winds through Washington Park and the zoo. Many come in costume making this a great morning activity for the family before an afternoon of football and food. Registration fee includes zoo admission. 8 a.m. Cheatham Hall.
