Telfer Ain't the One

As a Bend City Councilor, the current Republican candidate for Treasurer, Chris Telfer, advocated and voted for the passage of Measure 37 in 2004. Measure 37 mandated that property owners may sue state or local government if they believe their property value is reduced by land use regulations.

The Treasurer is, of course, in charge of the state's funds.

I wonder: does Telfer still think that compensating anyone who claims their property value is reduced by regulations is a good use of taxpayer money? If so, then let me get in line! I think my land value has dropped! I sue you, you and you! Gimme, gimme, gimme!

And in an interview in 2002, when asked about the potentially disastrous fiscal impact of such a measure, she said, "Well, I guess the state would have to go bankrupt."

And now she wants to be Treasurer? The hypocrisy is hysterical - except that these are our tax dollars. Can we really afford to have this person in charge of the state's coffers? Telfer loves to answer every challenge with the tired "Well, I'm a CPA." Hmm. Does that mean a couple thousand people are qualified to be Treasurer?

If so, then let's at least pick one who isn't on record as saying she doesn't care if the state goes bankrupt.
