4 Peaks Preparty

After the advent of a new, more expansive permit that will allow for the event to grow beyond its 1,000 attendee capacity, the seventh year of this jamgrass festival looks to be the best lineup yet. Railroad Earth, Dumpstaphunk, Poor Man's Whiskey, Hot Buttered Rum and Brothers Comatose—just to name a few. This pre-game offers discounted tickets to the June 20-22 event, as well as music from prickly pear, Siskiyou Mountain bluegrass boys, Ashland's Eight Dollar Mountain. (BB)

TedX Bands

Last year's TedX was filled with music worth sharing. Most memorably, the Portland Cello Project, a group of classical musicians who transform traditional instruments into tools for modern melodies from Bach to Radiohead, gave an inspired presentation and performance called The Boundaries of Resonance on tention and dischord in the 12-note classical scale. Mosley Wotta and Tony Smiley both offered some dancing-in-your-chair excitement. Ted 2014 won't announce the bands until they grace the stage at Bend High, but we have full faith that they will be educational, inspirational and unmatched. (BB)

Slaughter Daughters

After relocating last year to Bend from Wichita, the quartet insinuated itself into a music community that was ready for a dour take on American music. The string band doesn't necessarily appropriate its work from past luminaries so much as twist its influences, distorting country and bluegrass histories, delivering it with alternating gut-level howls and pleasant-Sunday crooning. Maybe the band will even explain its fascination with the moon. Locals Uncle Penn open. (DJC)
