The Summit Saloon and Stage

The happy hour that's downright joyful.

Although still sometimes referred to as a "new bar" in town, the Summit Saloon and Stage has actually now been open for an entire year. The two-level restaurant and bar on Oregon Avenue began as a lunch and dinner spot with plenty of live bands and other entertainment, but soon changed up their format, trading in live shows for no-cover DJ nights. There have been other changes along the way, but what's remained the most impressive element of the Summit is its happy hour menu, as well as the fact that it's four delightful hours long. Rather than racing to one of the other one or two-hour happy hours at other downtown spots, the Summit allows you a little more time, stretching all the way out to 7pm. You can get enough food to suffice as a meal and a beer (or maybe two, if you're crafty) for right around ten bucks. Impossible, you say? Well, first off, you need to ditch that loser attitude and secondly, it's incredibly possible. For starters, you order up either a domestic pint ($2) or one of the Summit's many micros or imports ($3). Then you get something to nibble on like a fry basket ($2) or chips and salsa ($3) before diving into the rest of the menu. A dinner at the Summit means big proportions and the same can be said for the restaurant's happy hour dishes - several of which constitute a full meal. The best of these is a half-pound burger and fries ($6), made from Cascade natural beef, which one bartender said is the Summit's most popular happy hour item. But a close second, he says, are the fish tacos ($5).
