Thursday 17

Girl Talk

If you're getting bored of staying at home and watching your roommate play around with his laptop, perhaps it's time to check out Girl Talk, (aka Greg Gillis) who plays around with his laptop professionally, for crowds of people. Specializing in electronic mixing and mashup remixes, Girl Talk turns out a truly creative twist on your get-moving, dance-club favorites, intermixing Fabulous lyrics with Peter Gabriel melodies and twisting together Black Sabbath and Ludacris, just to name a few of his musical pairings. 8pm, Roseland Theater.

Friday 18

Artsy and psychedelic, let the women of Warpaint help you unwind from a hectic week or just enlighten your creative mind. This band has worked previously with Red Hot Chilli Peppers guitarist John Frusciante and has covered David Bowie, in addition to creating their own imagery-filled lyrics and melodies that are as beautiful to listen to as these women instrumentalists are to watch. 8pm, Wonder Ballroom.

Monday 21

Good Charlotte

Girls, grab your cars and money and check out Good Charlotte live. Oh and don't forget to bring those boyfriends of yours, too! This mainstream punk-rock group has won numerous MTV awards and gone to the top of music charts worldwide. Good Charlotte has performed with musicians ranging from Simple Plan to Justin Timberlake and their five released albums that range from angsty punk to pumped-up pop to heartfelt rockin' songs of love and hope. 8pm, Roseland Theater.

Tuesday 22

Lucy Wainwright Roche

Need an evening hanging out with a down-to-earth American just like you? Well, how about a down-to-earth American who can sing an out-of-this-world beautiful melody? From a family of talented and famous musicians, including her father, Loudon Wainwright III, a 2010 Grammy award winner, Lucy Wainwright Roche is a former elementary school teacher who recently opened for the Indigo Girls on tour and has delighted her audiences with a candid and funny stage presence and lyrical acoustic guitar songs, connecting the natural elements of the our country and earth and the nature of our hearts and souls. 8pm, The Woods.

We recently visited Bend for the Film Festival and very much enjoyed ourselves, with one small exception. We parked our Ford in the public parking structure, only to find when we returned on Friday night that it had been spat upon, apparently in retribution for our Obama 2012 bumper sticker. I understand that whoever did this was passionate about politics, something I have always shared.

After living in Bend for a year and a half, I recently stopped through on business. I love the town, the people, and all the outdoor beauty the area offers. One of my favorite things about Bend is without question, The Source. From the first time I read it, I knew it would be a cover-to-cover great time for me to enjoy all the stories, community news, the updates on all the music and arts, presentations, and great things goings on around town.
