One of Portland’s most righteous live bands, The Builders and the Butchers will be at McMenamins tonight and tomorrow night at 7pm. And yeah, both are free! All ages too. The five-part band (which includes an organ, banjo and mandolin) is touring in support of its third album, Dead Reckoning, which hit the shelves Feb., 2011.

Fully aware that the energy of live music is where it’s at, TBATB recorded most of the songs for Dead Reckoning live, in one take. Neat.

Filter dug their raucous sound:

โ€œIn the footsteps of Cormac McCarthy on a leash, Salvation is a Deep Dark Well unfolds as a collection of Southern Gothic narratives whose tales of death, red skies, god and his other half are caked with the dusty blood of too many sunrisesโ€ฆa blooming balance of dark nu-folk instrumental layers weave with Americana-rooted romps.โ€

Now, a look at their personality: on The Builders and Butchers website.
