Every day, the Source publishes a mix of locally reported stories on our website, keeping you up to date on developments in news, food, music and the arts. We’re committed to covering this city where we live, this city that we love, and we hear regularly from readers who appreciate our ability to put breaking news in context.

The Source has been a free publication for its 22 years. It has been free as a print version and continued that way when we began to publish online, on social media and through our newsletters.

But, as most of our readers know, times are different for local journalism. Tech giants are hoovering up small businesses and small-business advertising—which has been the staple for locally owned media. Without these resources, journalism struggles to bring coverage of community news, arts and entertainment that social media cannot deliver.

Video from Last Night's Dawes Show at Silver Moon

LA-based Americana-rockers Dawes perform at Silver Moon Brewery in Bend, Oregon on January 25, 2011.

Even though the show was only announced a week earlier, there was a great turn out at Silver Moon Brewery last night for LA-based folky-Americana rockers Dawes. The band treated the Tuesday night crowd to favorites from their most recent album Northern Hills, including "When My Time Comes" and "Love Is All I Am". Better yet, the band performed songs from their upcoming album, which should be out this spring. New songs "Fire Away" and "Time Spent in Los Angeles" sounded awesome.

Nashville-based singer-songwriter Jonny Corndawg opened the show. He began by having the guys from Dawes back him up in a full band and then continued solo. His tunes had a country feel to them, and he was polite enough to ask how to pronounce Oregon. His songs ranged in topic from cheating women to a children's song about bears. Below, you can watch his performance of his song "Oversteppin'".

After the show I spoke to local musician Eric Tollefson, who informed me that he now has four new man-crushes on the guys from Dawes, and I told him he's definitely not alone. We'll all be crossing our fingers for Dawes to return to Bend, and hopefully sooner rather than later. In the meantime, check out these videos from last night's show.
