100% Local. No Paywalls.

Every day, the Source publishes a mix of locally reported stories on our website, keeping you up to date on developments in news, food, music and the arts. We’re committed to covering this city where we live, this city that we love, and we hear regularly from readers who appreciate our ability to put breaking news in context.

The Source has been a free publication for its 22 years. It has been free as a print version and continued that way when we began to publish online, on social media and through our newsletters.

But, as most of our readers know, times are different for local journalism. Tech giants are hoovering up small businesses and small-business advertising—which has been the staple for locally owned media. Without these resources, journalism struggles to bring coverage of community news, arts and entertainment that social media cannot deliver.

Live Music Pick: Y La Bamba

Portland's Y La Bamba play Bend's Old St. Francis Feb. 16th.

It's getting easier to find great live music in Bend these days. Still,  there are shows that get scheduled that definitely rise above the rest and are must see performances.

One of those shows from our recommended concert calendar is the Bend stop for Portland's, Y La Bamba. I saw them play in between Bend singer/songwriter Sara Jackson-Holman and epic folk group Horse Feathers, late last year and was blown away. Their sweet sound crawls out from the stage and gathers strength as it makes its way to your ears and will have you turning to your friends over and over again to say "wow."

Part of the McMenamin's Great Northwest Music Tour concert series, Y La Bamba (led by beautifully talented Luzelena Mendoza and featuring Sean Flinn) will be playing this FREE 7pm show at McMenamin's Old St. Francis School in the Father Luke's Room, on Wednesday, February 16th. Check out the video below of the cut "Juniper", released from their album Lupon.
