Snow Report: Skiing at Virginia Meissner after the storm

A look at the cross country trails after the big storm in Bend.

I don’t think I’ve made the drive up the Cascade Lakes Highway in more than a month now. That might be an exaggeration, but I like to ski three times a week and this has been a serious hiatus.

I headed up to Virginia Meissner yesterday, which waa a non-grooming day, but they had nevertheless groomed a few of the lower trails. I’m glad I brought my classic skis, because even on the groomers the snow was too squishy for skating. I  saw a few endorphin junkies out there with skates on, so it was doable, just not recommended.

I poked a few test holes in the snow and it did not seem that Meissner got all the rain we did in town a few days ago, just white fluffy powder. Today should be beautiful up there will all the trails freshly groomed. Winter is back!
