Woody's NCAA Bracket Blues: Started fast and falling just as quickly

Woody's high-flying NCAA tournament bracket takes a tough hit on Sunday.

Every year, I promise myself never ever to pick any of the extremely over-rated Big East teams on my NCAA basketball tournament bracket. But I succumbed again this year and picked Pitt to go to the Final Four. Of course, they got ousted by Butler, which, like last year, looks like a team made up of actors right out of Hoosiers. I mean, their coach looks like he’s all of 25…OK, maybe he’s 27 years old.

According ESPN and its national bracket busters contest, I was in the 90th percentile of prognosticators after the tournament’s second round. Now, I’m well below that and no longer worried about my national reputation for picking winners.

Now I’m fixated on winning my annual head-to-head bracket battle with a local friend. This will be our 33rd straight year of bracket battling with the winner buying the loser dinner the evening of the championship game.

With that in mind, go Ohio State, Kansas and Texas (oops, they just lost, too). I say that fully expecting Butler to square off with San Diego State in the final and put bracket maniacs nationwide over the edge.
