The Traveling Camera: Capturing Nightlife

Christian Heeb's photo of Billy Mickelson and his cello.

Last Saturday, I wanted to try out my new remote flash triggers. So we hopped over to Stuart's of Bend/Bright Place Gallery for their last Saturday art hop. The scene was very cool and getting crowded upstairs. I placed a remote Nikon Flash with an orange gel to the left of Billy Mickelson and his cello. Then I shot a fill flash from the right of my camera into the scene. I like the wide-angle shot of Billy in deep concentration while Ashuly Hoxie and Jonny Carringon relax to the right next to him. Having the flash off camera really does enhance your photos. Using the right balance of available light and flash brings a nightlife scene to life.
