La Pine Fatal Car Accident Victim Was Also a Local Musician

James Palmer, killed in a car accident on Friday, played in local band Heleos.

The impact of James Palmer's passing in a car accident near La Pine on Friday evening continues to ripple through the Central Oregon community -- including our local music scene.

Palmer, a 37-year-old La Pine Fire District captain, was also known as the drummer for local blues rock outfit Heleos. The band was set to play this Friday night's round of Last Band Standing, but announced today that they would be dropping out of the competition due to Palmer's passing.

On the band's Facebook page, Palmer described his intense love of music.

“Music takes me to another level emotionally and every genre of music can be used to express a part of my life,” he said. “I wish everyone could go to the place where music takes me – Ill try to get ya there!”

A memorial has been planned for Palmer on Saturday at La Pine High School at 2pm. Donations to Palmer's family can be made through the James Palmer Memorial Fund at U.S. Bank.
