The Traveling Camera: Dog Days

Christian Heeb on how to shoot photos of dogs.

While dog sitting for friends, we decided to use our time with their dog, Coco. While walking in the forest, my wife would throw sticks for him to pick up.

While the dog fetched the stick, I got in position for shots with my 80-400mm zoom lens.

I kept it a 400mm and set my camera on auto focus with the focus on the charging dog. When photographing small animals, it is best to stay low and keep the camera at the eye level of your subject. I shot rapid fire of maybe 12 frames and got him just right five times. This being the best shot.
