Bend Book Club to Honor Slain Member, Meyer

Posted By on Wed, Aug 10, 2011 at 10:06 PM

Friends of the Bend grandmother who was believed to have been murdered by her husband earlier this year announced that they intend to honor her memory by dedicating a room in her name at the local women’s shelter and counseling center.

Members of Sandra Meyer’s book club have adopted a room at Saving Grace that they will decorate this week with new furniture, bedding and other materials, including some of the books that members read with the Meyer while she was a member of their club. The room will be referred to as “Sandy’s Room” according to the organization.

Meyer disappeared from her Mountain High home in March while supposedly en route to a book club meeting in the Old Mill. Her car was found in the shopping area, but Meyer had seemingly vanished. Friends, family and police searched the entire area, including the river but failed to turn up a sign of Meyer. When investigators turned to her husband, John Meyer, as a suspect a week later, he committed suicide. Family members eventually found Sandra Meyer’s body hidden in a backyard utility box and police have classified the case as a murder-suicide.
