Serving as yet another indicator of our dreary economic reality, both Bend West Coast Bank branches are reportedly scheduled to close — the last two such branches east of the Cascades.

A brief chat with an employee at the Century Dr. location revealed that that the future was uncertain for her and her coworkers, but she was hopeful that they would receive some sort of compensation package.

Last week, West Coast Bankcorp announced that they would be closing three other branches by November 30: one in Vancouver, Wash., one in Charbonneau and another in Toledo, Ore., according to reports from The Oregonian, which also noted that the bank gained $4.6 million in second-quarter earnings this year despite reporting a $3.8 million loss in the same quarter last year.

Stay tuned for more info and updates.
