(Deschutes) Beer Is Back!

New menu items in a big new space.

Acting on anonymous tip that the Bond Street location had re-openend, MicroCosmos made our way down to the Deschutes Brewery for a late lunch today and discovered a bigger bolder pub in place of our longtime watering hole. The brewery has yet to formally announce its grand re-opening, look for that later this week, so the crowd was light, allowing MicroCosmos to survey the new digs and snap a few photos before diving into a Reuben.

All in all, it appears Deschutes has done a bang up job of fusing together its distinctly modern addition with its cozy and more intimate pub and early 90s vibe. While the new space is impressive with its expansive open kitchen, mutli-stories and party room. Most locals will probably be just as interested in what’s changed as what hasn’t in the original pub. Among other things, there is a new waiting area, a great relief for families who are used to crowding the entrance way and doors as their children squirm. The waiting area is part of a general theme of more elbow room, something that everyone can appreciate on a Saturday night.

In a few non-construction related notes, we’ve been informed that Deschutes will pare back its beer offerings from roughly 20 flavors to 16, a move that was necessitated by the expansion and the addition of two different pouring stations, including one in a private party room on the second floor of the addition. In menu news, the new kitchen features a pizza oven and the new lunch menu includes three flatbread pizzas, including a “pub special” with “ale wort tomato sauce, carmelized onions, hosemade sausage and pepperoni." Mmmm..

There’s also a new bar menu that features a few pub favorites from the appetizer menu with items ranging from $3.50 (hand-cut chips) to $12 (sausage sampler).

Look for more information about the pub’s grand re-opening in this week’s issue of the Source, on stands Wednesday.
