Mini TED conference coming to Bend

Local organizers will hold mini-TED conference on April 28

The first time I saw a TED talk I was blown away. The clarity of the ideas! The passion of the speaker! The succinct delivery! I never saw newspaper design the same way again.

Now TED, which was founded in 1984 to present “ideas worth spreading,” is coming to Bend. A group of local design firms and sponsors is bringing an independently organized mini-conference called “Bending Rules” to town on April 28.

This is different than one of TED’s major conferences, but the premise is the same. Get together several presenters, each with an inspiring and clear message about technology, entertainment or design (TED), and put on a show that will spark conversation and generate ideas.

The 12 presenters at the half-day conference include Sidney Rittenburg, the only American ever accepted into the Chinese Communist Party, and Myrlie Evers-Williams, author and widow of civil rights leader Medger Evers.

A number of “TED Talk Video Nights” will be held by organizers as the event approaches. For more information visit tedxbend.com.
